Location Scouting: Badwill Market

Last summer me and my buds at Treats Club threw a summertime event called BadWill Market. The market took place twice, and was short lived due to a few reasons (proper licensing, logistics, venue renovation, etc.). The event took place at HG Lodge, which for the most part was a very accommodating venue. Because of my good and long standing relationship with the venue owner and staff it was a good choice! Outdoor roof deck, wide open space, and central location. This summer I am looking for a new venue to host my event and surprisingly there are quite a few event spaces to choose from. It's kind of like shopping for a new home! Below are some candidates and great spaces on Capitol Hill for a fashion event. Whether it's a flea market, trunk show, fashion show, trade show, or launch party.

1) Fred Wildlife Refuge- I've been here a couple of times for a benefit and a music release party. This space is definitely not for the unimaginative. It's a blank slate, open space, a canvas if you will. If you are well equipped in visuals, lighting, decorations, the whole shebang...this space is a great. Imagine this: motion graphics on the screen, logos, flash bang imagery. I like the indoor/ outdoor feel of this venue. Wide open garage doors, and great lighting. Rent ranges from $500- $1000, but offers non-profit packages.

2) Melrose Market Studios- Tucked away in Melrose Avenue this venue has a very Parisian, rustic, and romantic presence. A perfect venue for something intimate and organic. Exposed brick, cement floors, vaulted ceilings. This is a great space for a flea market if you want a more artisan feel. Although I have never been to an event here before, I imagine the experience as mentioned above. Daily rent rates are reasonable and affordable. $1500 on Sundays.

3) Rainier Chapter House- By no means is that venue on top of the list for being trendy, hip, new, and cool, however when you are a girl who is obsessed with nostalgia, vintage clothing, and other old shit you appreciate old world charm buildings such as this. I wouldn't say this is the best place for a full blown fashion event, but I think this would be a suitable place for vintage vendors, arts and crafts makers, jewelry designers, and such to showcase their work. Unsure about rental rates.

I am still on the hunt for the perfect venue! I will keep you all posted. Also visit the following links for other potential venues and spaces to host your next fashion event...
